<p><P><STRONG>By Andy States<BR>Digital Sports Content Manager<BR></STRONG><BR>As they hustled into the dugout following the top of the sixth inning in Wednesday&#8217;s 2A South semfinal against Hammond, McDonough&#8217;s Stacy Tiscione knew that it was time to get something done.<BR><BR>&#8220;It was late in the game,&#8221; Tiscione said. &#8220;We went into the dugout knowing that something needed to happen that inning.&#8221;<BR><BR>Something did. Tiscione laced a one-out single into center field &#8212; the only hit of the game &#8212; to set the table. Mitchell followed with a walk, and Sam Kruemmel dropped a bunt on the first-base side of the mound the following at-bat. The subsuqent throw was off the mark and both McDonough runners came around to score. <BR><BR>Mitchell then calmly went out in the seventh and set the visiting Golden Bears down in order to complete a 17-strikeout perfect game&nbsp;in the top-seeded Rams&#8217; 2-0 win. McDonough is scheduled to host Gwynn Park at 4 p.m. on Friday for the regional championship.<BR><BR>&#8220;Coming into the dugout before that inning, we said, &#8216;let&#8217;s show these people that it&#8217;s a team. It&#8217;s not one individual,&#8217;&#8221; said Mitchell after her third perfect game of the season.<BR><BR>While Hammond (15-3) never had a runner on base, McDonough (16-0) put a runner in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings. But the Rams were still without a base hit entering the sixth. Hammond senior pitcher Stephanie Speierman, who&nbsp;broke the state&#8217;s career strikeout mark earlier in the week, pitched out of any potential trouble and struck out eight through five innings.&nbsp; But then came the sixth.<BR><BR>After Tiscione and Mitchell reached safely, Kruemmel knew what her job was.<BR><BR>&#8220;I just got the sign from [Coach Julie Snavely] and I knew that I had to get the bunt down,&#8221; she said. <BR><BR>Kruemmel did, and the resultant play proved to be the difference. The win marked the third consecutive postseason meeting between the two programs that have seen McDonough come out on top, though the first two meetings were played at Hammond. And, as has been the case in the previous meetings, it came down to which team made the first mistake.<BR><BR>&#8220;That&#8217;s the way it&#8217;s been the last three times we&#8217;ve played, and they&#8217;ve come out on top,&#8221; Hammond coach Richard Pond said. &#8220;Our girls were really pumped to come out here and do something down here.<BR><BR>&#8220;We were going to try to return the favor, but it didn&#8217;t quite work out that way.&#8221;<BR><BR>Speierman surrendered just the one hit, walked five and struck out 12. But Mitchell&#8217;s perfect, 17-strikeout effort won the battle. The seventh inning ended with a pop-up to second base and a grounder to third for the final two outs &#8212; the only inning the entire game where Hammond managed to put the ball in play twice. <BR><BR>&#8220;[Mitchell] is fantastic,&#8221; Pond said. &#8220;She didn&#8217;t allow us to get any hits at all. She was the best pitcher out there today.&#8221;<BR><BR>Through two postseason games, Mitchell has struck out 35 batters as the Rams have rolled to shutout victories over Marriotts Ridge and Hammond. But there was a little added focus on Wednesday&#8217;s matchup, according to Mitchell.<BR><BR>&#8220;We knew it was going to be a tough game,&#8221; she said. &#8220;The past few years it&#8217;s always been tough against them. You&#8217;re not going to get line shots against Stephanie.&#8221;<BR><BR>McDonough, which finished as the 2A state runner-up a year ago, will attempt to earn its second consecutive state semifinal berth with Friday&#8217;s game against Gwynn Park. <p>The starting lineup today for <a href="http://www.digitalsports.com/school/id/11342.aspx">Hammond</a>&#8216;s varsity baseball team consisted of one senior, seven sophomores and a freshman.&nbsp; But the Golden Bears proved that they are no junior varsity squad as they defeated host <a href="http://www.digitalsports.com/school/id/23041.aspx">River Hill</a> 3-2 on Tuesday.</p>
<p>&#8220;We are the youngest team in Howard County by far with seven sophomores<br />
and one freshman,&#8221; said  Hammond head coach Mike Lerner.&nbsp; &#8220;So I&#8217;m basically rolling out a team<br />
that could play JV with the exception of a couple of seniors and a<br />
couple of juniors.&nbsp; Everybody is contributing, we&#8217;re starting to<br />
believe in each other&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>The Hawks by comparison started four seniors, four juniors and a sophomore on a veteran team.</p>
<p>Starting pitcher Travis Clark, one of the several sophomores for Hammond, pitched a strong game mixing a sharp breaking ball with a good fastball to keep the potent River Hill lineup off balance.&nbsp; Clark, the big right-hander, improved to 2-3 as a starter this season as he pitched seven innings, striking out 10 batters and allowed just three hits.</p>
<p>&#8220;I had my stuff today,&#8221; said Clark of his outting.&nbsp; &#8220;I was just throwing strikes and hitting my spots.&#8221;<br />&nbsp;<br />&#8220;Travis threw a great game,&#8221; Lerner said of his young starter.&nbsp; &#8220;One thing that&#8217;s been hurting us all year is when we start walking guys and giving them extra base runners, Travis didn&#8217;t do that today&#8230;&#8221;</p>
<p>As baseball fans know, if a pitcher can help himself at the plate as a hitter, it goes a long way to earning the victory.&nbsp; Clark did just that in the bottom of the third, knocking in a two-out RBI double to score sophomore left fielder Taylor Kopnitsky.&nbsp; The run put Hammond (4-6-1) on the board first at 1-0.</p>
<p>The Hawks (4-6) tied the game in the bottom of the inning when lead-off batter Bryan Becraft singled to start the inning.&nbsp; He stole second base and was eventually driven in as Stephen Kline reached base on an error.&nbsp; Behind its starting pitcher, senior John Blasher, who threw a complete game, River Hill kept the contest within reach.</p>
<p>The score didn&#8217;t remain tied for long as the Golden Bears scored in the top of the fourth behind the base running of sophomore shortstop Jared Christensen.&nbsp; Christensen hit a single and stole second and third base to get into scoring position.&nbsp; He crossed the plate on a fielder&#8217;s choice by senior Matt Winder to give Hammond the 2-1 lead.</p>
<p>Becraft scored his second run of the game in the bottom of the fifth after he singled, reached second on a passed ball then advanced to third base as Clark tried to pick him off of second base but sailed the throw into center field.&nbsp; Becraft scored when senior first baseman Ryan Bounds reached base on an error.</p>
<p>But the young Bears battled back to take its final lead in the top of the sixth.&nbsp;&nbsp; Sophomore Tyler Clark walked to start the inning.&nbsp; Hammond&#8217;s coach Mike Lerner inserted junior Kevin McVicker as a pinch runner.&nbsp; McVicker stole second base then reached third on a ground out by Christensen.&nbsp; With one out and McVicker on third, senior Zach Force knocked in the winning run on an RBI single.</p>
<p>Clark did the rest, striking out four of the last six batters to gain the victory for Hammond.</p>

<p>In a matchup between two of the top softball teams in Howard County, visiting <a href="http://www.digitalsports.com/school/id/11342.aspx">Hammond</a> managed to squeek by <a href="http://www.digitalsports.com/school/id/4519.aspx">Centennial</a>, 1-0 on it&#8217;s home field on Friday. </p>
<p>The<br />
                      contest was the epitome of the term pitcher&#8217;s duel.&nbsp; The defending<br />
                      County champion Golden Bears&#8217; junior ace Stephanie Speierman went the<br />
                      distance throwing all seven innings, striking out 18 batters and<br />
                      allowing just one hit in the win.</p>
<p>For the Eagles (7-2), senior<br />
                      starter Katie Hobson struck out 10 batters in five innings of work.&nbsp;<br />
                      Hobson was removed from the game in the fifth due to a back injury and<br />
                      junior reliever Meg Tucker stepped into the circle and picked up where<br />
                      Hobson left out, striking out three batters in two innings of work.</p>
<p>&#8220;To<br />
                      win a [Howard] County championship, you have to go through Centennial,&#8221;<br />
                      said Bears&#8217; head coach Pond Richards.&nbsp; &#8220;Centennial is a perennial<br />
                      powerhouse year after year, after year&#8230;They&#8217;re always good, they<br />
                      always give you a good game.&nbsp; You know you&#8217;re in for a tough game when<br />
                      you face Centennial.&#8221;</p>
<p>The lone run came in the top of the first<br />
                      inning.&nbsp; Hobson started off the game when she hit Speierman with a<br />
                      pitch.&nbsp; After a foul out, Hobson walked Katie McCarthy to put runners<br />
                      on first and second base.</p>
<p>Junior third baseman Brittany Hazzard<br />
                      struck out for the second out of the inning.&nbsp; Hobson then struck out<br />
                      junior first baseman Janice Rattigan but the ball got away from senior<br />
                      catcher Corinne Ung and Rattigan was safe at first. </p>
<p>With that<br />
                      error, the bases were loaded and the inning was extended. Sophomore<br />
                      Kiersten Palmer was walked to bring in the only run of the game. </p>
<p>&#8220;It was a one nothing ball game, we were fortunate to go up on them in<br />
                                            the very first inning,&#8221; said Richards.&nbsp; &#8220;It was<br />
                                            a pitcher&#8217;s duel after that.&nbsp; We had some runners on base several times<br />
                                            but we just couldn&#8217;t get that one extra hit that we needed.&#8221;</p>
<p>From<br />
                      there, the two starting pitchers were impressive throwing an array of<br />
                      pitches that kept batters from the opposite team off balance all game.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Through the first five innings, the flame throwing starters combined for 23 strikeouts (13 for Speierman, 10 for Hobson).</p>
<p>The<br />
                      rivalry between these two teams is intense, so intense that Hobson<br />
                      started the game and labored through five innings even though she was<br />
                      injured.</p>

                      pulled my back last week then I got into a car accident on Monday and<br />
                      my back has been hurting since.&nbsp; I really wanted this game, so I<br />
                      decided to pitch.&nbsp;&nbsp; I did as well as I could, it felt like a knife was<br />
                      in my back on every pitch but I shoveled through it because I wanted<br />
                      this game, I just had one bad inning.&#8221;</p>
<p>The two teams combined<br />
                      for four hits the entire contest.&nbsp; McCarthy, Hazzard and junior Sarah McCauley<br />
                      registered singles for Hammond (6-1) and Ung had the lone hit for<br />
                      Centennial.</p>
<p>Last year, the Eagles defeated the Bears at Hammond.<br />
                      In the second matchup, Hammond returned the favor and beat the Eagles<br />
                      at their place.&nbsp; The trend continued this season as Centennial could<br />
                      not hold serve at their field.</p>

<p></b>There is no lack of enthusiasm at Hammond High in boys&#8217; lacrosse, where second-year Bears coach, Erik Burnett, will rely on the yeomen efforts of what he sees as a youthful, hard-working contingent.<br /><b><br /></b>&#8220;From last year, we graduated a lot of key players, including all three starting midfielders and a starting attackman,&#8221; said Burnett, whose Bears broke even last season with an 8-8 record. <br /><b><br /></b>&#8220;This year, we are inexperienced and not as talented and will have to rely on hard work to beat teams,&#8221; Burnett said. &#8220;We will look to groundballs and defense to keep us in tight games.&#8221;</p>
<p>Burnett will rely on the senior leadership and poise in the nets of keeper Mark Thomas, whom he calls &#8220;a very under-rated.&#8221;</p>
<p>Thomas &#8220;is going to keep us competitive and surprise a lot of other teams,&#8221; said Burnett. </p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><font color="#ff0000"><i>This is Gillett&#8217;s final diary. And it is his best. </i></font>&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Anticipation. Excitement. Nerves. Confidence. Fear of<br />
                                                                  the unknown.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All of the above are words that&nbsp;you, the state tournament-bound wrestler, may be feeling as&nbsp;each of you head into the last week of training prior to this frenetic upcoming weekend at the University of Maryland&#8217;s Cole Field House.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All your months of preparation comes down to this final weekend. Everything comes to fruition, or goes for naught.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Those were the same unique feelings which saddled members of our Newberry Indians&#8217;<br />
                                                                  team last week as it headed into the East Regional Championships.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The Indians finished 8.5 points better than perennial<br />
                                                                  East Region power Pitt-Johnstown to win their first-ever team championship in the event.<br />
                                                                  Newberry is the first school, other than Pitt-Johnstown, to win the East Region<br />
                                                                  championship since Ashland University (Ohio) did so in 2002.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Head Coach Jason Valek also was honors by the coaches of the NCAA Division II East<br />
                                                                  Region as the 2007-08 Coach of The Year.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Newberry will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to take part in<br />
                                                                  the 2008 NCAA Division II National Championship tournament on March 14-15. The<br />
                                                                  Indians will bring eight national qualifiers to the event &#8212; the most in team<br />
                                                                  history. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Going into states last year as a senior defending Class 2A-1A state<br />
                                                                  champ, I had so many feelings. I found it was a lot harder to<br />
                                                                  defend a title than it was to obtain my first one.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It was a lot tougher, mentally. I learned last year that the will<br />
                                                                  to win is not as important as the <i>willingness to prepare to win</i>.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Those last two<br />
                                                                  weeks, prior to states, I would leave my brutal three-hour practice with Coach Pedro Barbosa<br />
                                                                  and my fellow Hammond teammates, and I would then go to Arundel High and spend until 11<br />
                                                                  p.m. with Ryan Lowder just working from the bottom position. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">On the nights I wasn&#8217;t with<br />
                                                                  Ryan Lowder, my father was taking me to Jason Gabrielson, who would make<br />
                                                                  me give everything I could and would never allow me to quit.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My brother, Dylan, who is Hammond&#8217;s 112-pounder, is my<br />
                                                                  hero. I wish him well.&nbsp; Dylan was a runner-up at last weekend&#8217;s Class 2A-1A South Regional Tournament, and I am told that he wrestled well, even in defeat, falling just 9-6 to River Hill&#8217;s state champ, Scott Mantua.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I took sixth at states during my sophmore year as an Arundel High wrestler when my coach was the legendary Billy Royer. I&nbsp; am rooting for Dylan to<br />
                                                                  surpass my achievement. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My style, and my attitude, are different from those that are Dylan&#8217;s.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> But from what I hear,&nbsp; Coach Barbosa often mistakenly calls Dylan<br />
                                                                  by my name while in the practice room, only to then turn, hug him, and apologize. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I was never a wrestler with an exciting style or blow-out moves. I was a much more calculated wrestler, even to the point of being known as &#8220;the nice wrestler.&#8221;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My brother, Dylan, however, has a more bombastic demeanor, which is, actually, an<br />
                                                                  attitude I wish that I could instill in myself as a college wrestler.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dylan<br />
                                                                  has no fear. Although he respects all of his opponents, there is no trepidation when he takes the mat against any of them.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you to tell<br />
                                                                  Dylan, for example, that he is facing a wrestler who is ranked third in the nation,<br />
                                                                  Dylan&#8217;s likely response might be something like, &#8220;So what , I&#8217;m No. 1.&#8221;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Some might perceive this to be cockiness, or even overconfidence. It is, however, just an attitude which reflects his the work he puts into his craft, and his willingness to give it everything he has.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I neither liked getting hurt in a match, nor did I want to hurt anyone else. To me, wrestling was a sport &#8212; not a fight.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dylan&#8217;s a fighter, as were most of the wrestlers he idolizes. Dylan considers himself a thug on the mat.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Dylan&#8217;s heroes are three-time state champ Brandon&nbsp;Lauer and state champs Ryan Mackin and Jason<br />
                                                                  Gabrielson. For those of you who know these coaches, all of them were very<br />
                                                                  physical.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Coach Jason Gabrielson taught me one<br />
                                                                  of my greatest lessons last year &#8212; just pior to states. The lesson: <i>You can keep going long after you think you can&#8217;t.</i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My hope is that each and every one of you state-bound wrestlers becomes mentally ready<br />
                                                                  to perform at your very best this weekend. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Prepare, work, fine-tune<br />
                                                                  those small details. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My parents would always tell me and my brother this: &#8220;If you continue to do what you&nbsp;have always done, you will continue<br />
                                                                  to get what you always got.&#8221;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> So, work on your mistakes and craft your<br />
                                                                  skills.&nbsp;It takes <i>complete commitment</i> to attain individual achievement in<br />
                                                                  wrestling, which&nbsp; develops and epitomizes character, confidence, success and domination.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">
                                                                  </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">A clean, hard-fought wrestling match is the most honest athleticism.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> In wrestling, there are no alibis. You either compete, or you quit.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In the end, only one hand will be raised. When the state tournament is over, will that hand be yours?</p>

                                                                                                              had to beat a guy from Largo who I hadn&#8217;t beaten in the previous two<br />
                                                                                                              years. I was hoping before my career ended that I would get to states.<br />

                                                                                                              year, they are Class 4A-3A Magruder junior Helen Maroulis (112), who,<br />

<p>Last year, Woody and Maroulis qualified,<br />
                                                                                                              yet again, with Woody becoming a state runner-up &#8212; the first female to<br />
                                                                                                              reach state finals. Maroulis (33-4), this year, became the first female<br />
                                                                                                              finalist in Montgomery County&#8217;s Tournament, as well as the first girl<br />
                                                                                                              to reach the Class 4A-3A West Region final.</p>
<p>Hovermale (24-3),<br />
                                                                                                              whose two-year record includes 44 wins and 35 pins, won her second<br />
                                                                                                              straight Washington County crown, and pinned her way to a third place<br />
                                                                                                              finish in Class 2A-1A West.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Dear Maryland wrestlers and fans:</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;<br />I apologize for being so late on my blog. But I have been<br />
busy to say the least.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So, since moving to S.C. I have encountered a lot of people,<br />
I&#8217;m partial to all things Southern and proud of my Southern roots. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The first 10 years of my life , my brothers Dakotah, and<br />
Dylan, and I&nbsp;were born and raised country boys from East, Tennesee.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">My<br />
mother and my grandparents &#8212; Nanny and Papaw &#8212; are from East, Tennessee, and <i>true<br />
</i>Southerners &#8212; all of them with a &#8220;hillbilly&#8221; twang.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Moving to Maryland in 1999 was a<br />
culture shock for my mother, brothers and myself. I became adjusted to the<br />
Metropolitan area that we live in. Although I had Southern roots, I had<br />
forgotten the simplistic and laid back lifestyle of the South.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">South Carolinians have a way of talking that is so nice. They say &#8220;please&#8221;, and, &#8220;thanks,&#8221; and, &#8220;I&#8217;m<br />
sorry,&#8221; for things that I have found really do not require an apology.<br />
But that is there nature.&nbsp;They have a way of pronouncing words in&nbsp; a<br />
long, drawn out kind of way.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Its unique.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Another thing I have learned and noticed is that people want to<br />
have a whole conversation with you when you just have a question to<br />
ask.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Recently, I needed directions. So I stopped at a local convenient mart. A couple of older gentlemen in coveralls&nbsp; were sitting outside drinking their &#8220;soda pop,&#8221; looked rather approachbale. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So I asked for directions. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I think they learned everything about me in an hour and told me<br />
everything about themselves during that same amount of time.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I was able to finally get<br />
the directions, but then, what I discovered was when I was told that<br />
my next turn would be &#8220;right down the road,&#8221; the term could be interpreted to mean a<br />
mile down or twenty miles down. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Directions in the South are not measured<br />
by miles but &#8220;down the road&#8221;.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have learned living here in Newberry SC, that everything<br />
moves three days behind the speed life. Hours of operations are unusual. The<br />
banks are closed at 4pm. A lot of the gas stations are often closed on<br />
Sundays. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> I decided to go and catch a late movie last week, but was<br />
surprised that, at 10 p.m., the theatre was closed.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But in retrospect, coming from a metropolitan<br />
area like Columbia, where the tension is palpable, it is actually is a relief to find solace so often.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have found Southern girls &#8212; or South Carolina Belles &#8212; seem to<br />
know everyone by their first name: Honey, Shugah and Darlin.&#8217;</p>
<p>When I first came here, I was told you can get by with the<br />
most awful kind of insult just as long as you preface the insult with<br />
&#8220;Bless her or his heart.&#8221;</p>
<p>At the time I didnt quite understand.</p>
<p>But recently , while in line at the good ole&#8217; Walmart , I overheard two women<br />
talking. The comment was, &#8220;bless her heart, she is&nbsp;so buck-toothed<br />
she could eat an apple through a picket fence.&#8221;</p>
<p>I&#8217;m assuming as long as the<br />
heart is blessed, the insult isnt that bad.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The food is plentiful. People want to over-feed you &#8212; which<br />
is not good for me trying to maintain weight. It doesnt matter if there is only<br />
one person or ten people at the table, there is always food in abundance.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">McDonalds serves grits. And you have to ask for your tea to be<br />
unsweetened because sweetend tea is a staple here.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> One of the favorite phrases<br />
here is, &#8220;You Guys.&#8221;. Recently, at dinner, I thought the waiter was<br />
going to &#8220;You-Guys&#8221; us to death. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">It was, &#8220;What can I get you guys?&#8221;, and, &#8220;Do you guys<br />
prefer biscuits or cornbread?&#8221;, or, &#8220;Are you guys ready to order?&#8221;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Along with learning to live within my Southern culture, life has been<br />
hectic.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Just like &#8220;you guys&#8221; are getting prepared for counties ,<br />
regions and states, we&#8217;re working hard at preparing for Regions.&nbsp; </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We&#8217;re third-year wrestling program, but we&#8217;re already ranked No. 1 in our region. Practices<br />
are shorter, but more intense. The morale is high with my team.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> Our coach never allows us to forget the importance of performing, inside and outside of the room. For as a team, we dictate how we will wrestle at the actual mat. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Personally, I&#8217;m continuing to learn and gain confidence, as well as tolerance<br />
for my wrestling skills. Ive learned there are good days and bad days.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&nbsp;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I want to congratulate my former fellow vipers, Ben Levin<br />
(130) and Alex Pagnotta (189) of McDonogh for their respective private schools state title-winning performances. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">&#8220;You -Guys,&#8221; kicked<br />
my tail back in eight grade.&nbsp; </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As I was reading the results of different<br />
matches, I came to some final conclusions. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Most people come to a<br />
wrestling event with a bias for whom they want to see emerge victorious. Sometimes, they<br />
dont see how things really occur.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> As a fan, you are wanting to see your<br />
wrestler win. But ask yourself: &#8220;Were both wrestlers well-coached?&#8221;, and, &#8220;Did the<br />
wrestlers represent their school well?&#8221;, and, &#8220;Did each wrestler give everything he<br />
had into his match?&#8221;</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> As a fan, if you can answer yes to these questions, well<br />
then friends, you saw a good match.</p>
